Lofts come in all different shapes and sizes and because of this we sometimes have to be able to create space and height where it previously wasn't available. There are four main types of loft conversions available. Dependant on the structure of your roof and the planning and building regulations for the area you live, we can use these methods to create the space you have in mind.

Velux Loft Conversion:

Getting their name from the well established roof light window, Velux loft conversions rarely require any planning permission and only need to meet building regulations. This is due to the minimal impact of the alterations to the exterior of the property. Being one of the most cost effective loft conversion options they topically suit lofts that have plenty of existing height.

Dormer Loft Conversion:

These loft conversions are one of the most common. This is due to the added space and height that is gained from their construction with a more conventional layout in their appearance with vertical walls and horizontal ceilings.

There are four main types of dormer that we can construct, these are:

Flat roof dormer loft conversions:

This requires us removing a large section of the existing roof and replacing it with a vertical wall to the front and a flat roof on top. This alters the roof line dramatically and is considered to be less aesthetically pleasing.

Gable fronted/hipped fronted pitched roof dormer:

These dormers are often smaller in size than flat roof dormers but are considered to be more aesthetically pleasing.

Hip to gable loft conversion:

These styles of loft conversions are dedicated to lofts that have hipped roofs. Due to the major changes in constructing a hip to gable loft conversion, the cost of such work can be higher than that of other options. Although not always necessary, hip to gable conversions are often married to other dormer conversion options to ensure maximization of space and usability.

Mansard:

Mansard loft conversions, much like flat roof dormer conversions, maximise the usable space. What makes Mansard conversions stand out from flat roof conversions is the 72 degree angle of the front wall, with windows and Juliet balconies still being possible thanks to a dormer being specially built to house them. Mansard conversions can be designed to have flat roofs as well as pitched roofs.
